Our WESH 2 CommUNITY Champion of the Week uses speech, occupational and physical therapy as well as fitness and fun to help people with disabilities. The complex is a dream come true for the founders of The Central Florida DreamPlex.There is barely a spot open at the DreamPlex’s Zumba class.”I like to dance. I like to do exercise stuff like that. I do everything like that,” Adrian said.For Adrian, the DreamPlex has been a dream come true: a place where he and his friends can dance, workout and have fun. The DreamPlex opened its doors in 2015 in Clermont. Amy Gomes had a vision she wanted to bring to life. As the owner of a home-based therapy company, she realized there was a greater need for many of her clients, including her own daughter, Abbey. WATCH OUR INTERVIEW WITH AMY GOMES BELOW: “As the kids got older and older, we saw that they weren’t staying active,” Amy Gomes said. “They didn’t have peer interaction. We thought we have got to do something about that.”So Amy Gomes, along with her son, Cameron, built the DreamPlex.It offers everything from physical therapy and fitness classes to camps for little ones. “We serve all ages and all types of disabilities. We don’t really want to focus on the disability, we focus on what we change of these activities so everyone is able to participate,” Cameron Gomes said.The DreamPlex has low-cost memberships and works to make sure cost is never a concern.”I’m very proud of how everyone had come together to make it happen,” Amy Gomes said.
