City encourages visitors to be “good neighbors” in open space and urban city parks to ensure they are welcoming to all
To help reduce fire danger and ensure the safety and enjoyment of the Fourth of July holiday for all visitors, Flagstaff Road will be closed from 3 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. After 3 p.m., all traffic will be diverted at 6th Street and Baseline Road. Only residents who live west of Chautauqua will be allowed beyond the closure. This has been a practice of the city for more than 20 years.
It has become a Boulder tradition to view fireworks from several Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) locations around the city. On the Fourth of July, OSMP Rangers and Boulder Police will advise visitors that possession of fireworks is prohibited within the city limits, including all city parks, and anywhere on city OSMP lands. Fireworks, if found, will be confiscated and a summons will be issued.
Visitors entering the Chautauqua Meadow and the Red Rocks area in west Boulder, which are some of the most heavily used firework-viewing areas, will be subject to visual inspection of their person, parcels, bags, containers or clothing capable of carrying such items. Visitors may refuse inspection and may dispose of or return to their vehicle any items they do not want inspected. For those who refuse inspection, rangers and police will deny entry. By city ordinance, glass containers and smoking are prohibited at all times on OSMP lands. OSMP Rangers also will be conducting active patrols across city’s open space system on the Fourth of July to help ensure a safe visitor experience.
Additionally, the city asks residents and visitors celebrating the holiday in one of the city’s urban parks to please be a good neighbor and help us keep our parks welcoming to all. Please remember that possession of open containers/consumption of alcohol in city urban parks is prohibited without a permit and to dispose of trash in marked containers or pack it out with you.
