An unbreakable bond between a Washington state woman and her dog led to a two-month search after her furry friend went missing in Montana.

Carole King has had her border collie, Katie, for seven years, KECI reports.

In July, the family was on a trip in Montana. When King and her husband returned to their hotel room July 20, they realized their dog had gotten out.

King didn’t waste time. Over the next 57 days, she put up flyers and knocked on doors in hopes of reuniting with Katie.

King even quit her job in Washington to stay in Montana and search for Katie.

“You know she’s out there searching for you. You can’t give up,” King told KECI.

King didn’t give up hope. Nearly two months after Katie went missing, King got a tip on her forever friend’s location.

“She was right there in the bushes,” King said. “I yelled her name, and she came right up to me.”

Katie lost 12 pounds in that time, King told KECI, but she is healthy.

King said she’s grateful for everyone’s help during her search.

“It was just—I should use another word—but amazing,” she said. “I just don’t know how to describe it.”
