2 pounds of marijuana, Ecstasy, ‘ghost gun’ found during traffic stop – Hartford Courant

Southington police said they allegedly found about two pounds of packaged marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy pills, and a 9mm “ghost gun” with a high capacity magazine in a search of a vehicle stopped Saturday on West Street.

The car was stopped just before 3 p.m. Saturday because the driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and then officers saw the occupants of the vehicle behaving in an allegedly “suspicious” manner, which led to further investigation, police said. The occupants were Evan R. Rodriguez, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old, both from Bristol, police said.

“Upon making contact with the occupants, officers immediately noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating” from the vehicle, police said in a statement Monday.

Rodriguez is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition, illegal alteration of a firearm identity, illegal purchase of a large capacity magazine, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, second-degree reckless endangerment, possession with intent sell controlled substance non narcotic, possession of a controlled substance, failure to obey a traffic control signal and traveling too fast for conditions, police said.

Police did not say whether the juvenile was charged. Rodriguez is free on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on March 3 at Superior Court in New Britain, police said.
