LOS ANGELES – The Fighting Illini track and field teams finished out the first day of the Rafer Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Rafer JJK) Invite and the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational. Only field events took place today in the Rafer JJK Invite; the Bob Larsen Distance Invite were the track events of today. Redshirt senior Ayah Aldadah won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:33.22. Junior Jack Roberts topped the 5000m podium on a time of 14:21.93

Freshman Olivia Campbell made an immediate impact in her outdoor debut. She finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.16m (180-11). That’s also the second furthest mark in Illinois history.  Junior Tyler Sudduth made his first hammer throw appearance where he finished third. His throw of 57.83m (189-8) notched him eighth in the school record book.

Redshirt junior Colin Yandel finished third in the 1500m (14:24.40) followed by junior Tyler Cushing in sixth (14:29.32).

Junior’s Michael Shafis and Aiden Ouimet finished second and third respectively in the javelin throw. Shafis threw a new personal best of 56.92m (186-9), Ouimet recorded a 51.94m (170-5).

Junior Anthony Maida placed fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (9:17.99). Sophomore Hallie Hill clocked a 4:25.88 to place fourth in the 1500m.

UP NEXT

The Illinois track and field teams are back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Rafer JJK Invite. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and track events start at 3 p.m. CT.
