HONOLULU — The No. 9 University of Hawaii beach volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over Pac-12 foes on the second day of  Heineken Queen’s Cup Saturday at Queen’s Beach. The BeachBows (9-3) blanked Oregon, 5-0, before battling past No. 14 Washington, 3-2.

UH (11-3)  moved to 4-0 in the round-robin tournament, as did No. 11 California, setting up a championship match between the two nationally ranked teams on Sunday. First serve for the tournament finale will be at 11:30 a.m. The ‘Bows enter tomorrow’s action riding a nine-game win streak.

In the first match of the day, the ‘Bows added yet another sweep of the weekend. Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo made their debut pairing on court 5 running away from Ducks Presley McCaskill and Valerie Peterson 21-6, 21-14 four UH’s first point. The ‘Bows won in straight sets in the remaining four courts in straight sets, capped by Sofia Russo and Anna Maidment’s 21-14, 21-17 win over Abby Plevin and Battia Rothstein at the No. 3 flight. UH improved to 3-0 all-time against Oregon.

In the second match of the day, UH met up with Washington for the 10th time in series history and the first time in Honolulu since 2019. The ‘Bows improved to 9-1 all-time versus the Huskies (6-6), but it didn’t come easy. UH took a 2-1 lead after straight sets wins by Ilihia Huddleston and Jaime Santer at the No. 4 court and Chandler Cowell and Sydney Miller at the No. 5 court. UH needed a win at one of the top flights with both of those extended to a third set. UH ultimately clinched the match as Brooke Van Sickle and Kaylee Glagau stormed back versus Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen 16-21, 21-15, 15-9. Kylin Loker and Riley Wagoner dropped just their third match of the year, falling to Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Mather at the No. 2 court, but it was a moot point with UH already having wrapped up the dual.

The Heineken Queens Cup concludes Sunday with a trio of matches capped by the Rainbow Wahine facing No. 11 California at 11:30 a.m.
