One Casey Middle School student was ticketed for theft after police reportedly found an airsoft gun in his backpack the day after another student was arrested for reportedly making shooting threats to the school, though police say the incidents do not appear to be related.
Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said Boulder Valley School District security noticed two students at Casey Middle School “acting suspicious” on campus, 1301 High St., Thursday morning.
Waugh said the security officials contacted Boulder police, and officers found an airsoft gun in one of the student’s backpacks. After further investigation, Waugh said police determined a theft was taking place, though the gun was not the object of the theft.
Waugh said that, “In consultation with the (Boulder County) District Attorney’s Office, a 13-year-old student was issued a ticket for theft and released to his parents. No charges were filed related to the airsoft gun.”
The incident comes a day after Boulder police arrested a 14-year-old student for reportedly making shooting threats against the school centered around Thursday’s end of year celebrations.
Waugh said at this time the two incidents do not appear to be related.
