The Boulder Rifle Club has submitted ambitious plans for expansion, which would help Boulder County meet its commitment to create two public ranges as part of a regional initiative to provide and promote safe options for recreational shooting.

The exhaustive application for a special use review of its expansion, which numbers 189 pages, calls for five new ranges at the existing club — 300-yard, 200-yard, 100-meter, 50-meter and 25-meter — for its location at 4810 N. 26th St., the northern end of 26th Street, about less than a mile north of its intersection with U.S. 36.

Additionally, it calls for a 20,050-square-foot range building, five 3,132-square-foot range shelters and three 144-square-foot bathroom facilities, to go along with the existing 1,612-square-foot range building.
