Broomfield is hosting its second annual Pride Party in the Park on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
The celebration will kick off with a pride motorcade down Midway Boulevard ending at the final party spot in Midway Park. There will be more than 30 booths, food trucks and activities to partake in during the event, and all ages are welcome.
Broomfield declared June as Pride Month at last week’s City Council meeting, shining a light on the LGBTQIA+ community.
“The rich diversity of Broomfield residents strengthens the vibrant character and integrity of our community, and it is imperative that all people feel valued, safe, empowered and supported by their peers, educators and community leaders,” the proclamation read. “Broomfield has made a commitment to advancing the equitable treatment of all residents as a welcoming community. We recognize the importance of upholding the truth that LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights.”
Sasha Davis, chair of PFLAG Broomfield, announced Pride in the Park after the proclamation was made.
“Given the attacks on queer children and families across the nation, there is no hyperbole to the statement that proclamations like these save lives,” Davis said. “This is an affirmation from our Council and from our city to the LGBTQIA+ community that we are safe, we are accepted, and we are celebrated for being who we are and that is vitally important.”
Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta said the city and county is dedicated to honoring the diversity within the community, and continuing to support an inclusive and equitable community.
“LGBTQ Pride Month is a celebration of freedom to pursue a happy life according to one’s own terms,” Castriotta said. “Embracing our diversity is affirming and actually saves lives, as most LGBTQ kids are born into straight families without a support network or anyone to turn to as they figure out they are unlike most other people. For this reason, a public declaration of the LGBTQ community is vital broadcasting to the world that queer people can find love and acceptance if they have the courage to seek it.”
