A female student at Central Connecticut State University died after being found unresponsive in an on-campus residence hall, according to a note President Zulma R. Toro sent to the CCSU community Sunday.
“This is the kind of heartbreaking news I had hoped I would never have to share during my presidency,” Toro wrote. “Late this morning, a student living in one of our residence halls was found unresponsive. CCSU police responded to the 911 call and began CPR until New Britain Emergency Services took over and transported her to the hospital. I am so very sorry to tell you that she did not make it.”
Toro said an official cause of death is not yet determined and police are investigating the circumstances of the student’s passing. The student was not named.
“We have been in contact with the student’s family to offer our condolences and support,” Toto wrote.
Toro said she and Vice President of Student Affairs Kellie Danso and Chief Operations Officer Sal Cintorino, the Residence Life team, and counseling staff were on campus Sunday.
“We are meeting with and providing support to our student’s roommates, friends, and hall mates,” Toro wrote.
The president also said the Counseling and Wellness team was available by phone at (860) 832-1926, and she encouraged “our students to reach out to talk to a professional at any time.”
Toto said more information would be shared when it is appropriate, and “please be safe.”
