Kae Madden: Vandalism: Catholic churches deplore desecration of sacred spaces
As members of the Rocky Mountain Region of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, we decry the recent acts of vandalism against the sacred spaces of our Roman Catholic siblings in Christ and violation of any and all sacred spaces.
While acts of violence are sometimes committed in response to perceived injustices, we do not condone vandalism, hate speech, the desecration of sacred spaces or any form of violence as an expression of public dissent.
We encourage open and honest dialogue around contentious issues, especially in these times of polarization within church and society, that we may together build a beloved community that addresses the needs and concerns of all.

Richard Eggers: Vandalism: Does the devil live in liberal Boulder?
On May 3, for the second time in eight months, Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder was widely vandalized over the issue of abortion.
Hate-drenched graffiti was extensively spray-painted and a window was broken. The stench of hatred permeated the grounds. Many thousands of dollars will be needed for repairs.
It will be interesting to see if the City Council and Boulder police put finding the desecrators near the top of their priority list. (Perhaps dealing with something other than building more bikes paths would help).
One can bet if City Hall were vandalized twice within eight months, a pro-active action plan would have been devised and people would have already been arrested. It makes one wonder whether the devil himself resides here in liberal Boulder.
Webster’s dictionary defines the word “liberal” as follows — “willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one’s own; open to new ideas.” Obviously that definition doesn’t apply to liberal Boulder.
Adding insult to injury was the Daily Camera’s relegation of this despicable news event to a small article on page two of the second section. Had Boulder’s Planned Parenthood headquarters been similarly desecrated, a blaring front page headline would have appeared and been merited.
For all its natural beauty, Boulder has a deep societal “fault-line.”
