BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The Coastal Georgia men’s basketball team (6-18, 4-11) ends its season against Thomas University (17-7, 10-5) on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Coffin Gym.

The game marks Homecoming for the College of Coastal Georgia and will also be senior day for Kenny Brown, Anthony Duncan and Mason McMurray.

Roster Breakdown:

Nick Jiles has been the heart and soul of the Mariners’ offense this season. He is averaging 14.3 points and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. The junior guard has also recorded 33 steals, which leads the team. And despite being a guard, he is averaging 4.4 rebounds per game.

The frontcourt tandem of Mason McMurray and Anthony Duncan has been solid all season as they are averaging 11.8 and 10.5 points per game this season, respectively. McMurray and Duncan are also first and second on the team in rebounds, grabbing 7.8 and 5.0 boards per game. Duncan leads the team with 23 blocks and is shooting 54 percent from the field, which also leads the team.

Torey James and Lorenzo Ferrell started the season late, but have been crucial to the team’s success. Both players can be seen as “tweeners” in that they can play on the wing or down low on both sides of the ball. James and Ferrell are at their best when they are bringing the ball up the floor, but have the ability to help the team in many other ways. James is averaging 10.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and is coming off one of his best games of the season, as he dropped 20 points on 7-17 shooting from the field against Warner. Ferrell is averaging 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds but also does a lot of things on the defensive end that doesn’t show up in the box score. Ferrell is coming off a stellar game against Florida Memorial where he put up nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and a pair of blocks as he affected the game in every aspect.

Guards Kenny Brown and Rodney Wiley Jr. have been solid all season for the Mariners. They are averaging 7.8 and 5.8 points, respectively, and can score in bunches when given the opportunity. Brown’s breakout game came against Florida Memorial when he dropped 18 points and made it look easy, going 7-10 from the field. Wiley Jr. had a similar game earlier in the season when he dropped 26 points against Reinhardt and was 6-6 from the three-point line.

Layton Veon and Antonio Muller have carved out nice roles for themselves late in the season. Veon is averaging 6.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and is a true three-level scorer. Muller, on the hand, adds value on the defensive end with his good on-ball pressure and quick hands. Muller has also shown flashes on the offensive end, when he dropped 11 points against Webber International on Jan. 5.

Scouting Thomas:

  • The Nighthawks are led by Mohammed Abubakar and Tim Williamson who are averaging 12.7 and 12 points per game, respectively. The duo also leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 and 6.2 per game.
  • Jarvis Brown is the other Thomas player averaging double figures at 11.9 and is shooting a team-high 38 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Jordan Booker is second in the Sun Conference in assists per game with 6.0 and also averages 9.4 points.
  • As a team, Thomas boasts the best defense in the conference, allowing 70 points per game.
