Rachel Moss (Boulder County Sheriff’s Office)

A woman accused of being high on marijuana when she caused a crash in Longmont that injured two other people is set for trial.

Rachel Moss, 32, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Boulder District Court to two counts of vehicular assault – DUI; driving under the influence of drugs; and failing to obey a traffic signal.

She is now set for a four-day trial starting Oct. 17, with a motions hearing set for Oct. 4.

Moss remains out of custody on a $250 cash bond.

The crash occurred on April 16, 2021, at the intersection of Ute Highway and Hover Street.

According to witnesses and footage from a dashboard camera, Moss was driving a silver Volkswagen Passat west on Ute Highway, also signed as Colo. 66 in that area, when she ran through a red light and struck a Nissan Murano that had been headed north on Hover Street through the intersection.

Both people in the Nissan suffered serious injuries, with crews having to extricate one woman from the vehicle. Moss also suffered a broken femur, and all three were taken to Longmont United Hospital, according to an arrest affidavit.

At the hospital, Moss told police she had been distracted by watching a road rage incident play out near her. By the time she realized her light was red, she told police it was too late to stop.

According to the affidavit, Moss admitted to doing one “dab” of marijuana. She said she took it for medical reasons, but then said her medical marijuana card had expired and she was buying it recreationally.

Moss consented to a blood draw, and results came back that indicated the presence of enough THC in her system for police to apply for an arrest warrant.
