There is nothing like the feeling of reeling in your first fish, and state officials are hoping to give everyone a chance this weekend to catch a big one.

In a Facebook post, Colorado Parks & Wildlife officials encourage everyone to grab their friends and family and head outdoors to net a weekend of memories.

“Fish may be slippery when wet, but catching one is a memory you’ll never forget,” the post reads.

Saturday and Sunday is Free Fishing Weekend in Colorado, and fish are biting in waters all around the state, according to officials, who want everyone an opportunity to get out and get some hits.

“The Free Fishing Weekend is a great way to get outside with family and friends and take advantage of Colorado’s extensive opportunities to fish for a myriad of cold and warm water fish species,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials stated in a news release.

Colorado has nearly 9,000 miles of trout streams, over 1,300 angling locations and 35 species of warm-water and cold-water fish, officials said.

Resident and nonresident anglers of all ages are invited to participate in the annual event, and while a license or habitat stamp is not required, all other rules and regulations apply. Anglers should consult the Colorado Fishing Brochure for specific regulations and restrictions.
