I’m building a workbench out of 2×4’s only, and I have some half lap joints cut for the braces on the legs. Well I don’t have a jointer or a planer so I’m making half laps (already cut) with the rounded edges of the 2×4’s into square cut outs. I’m going to put 4 screws and glue into each joint, but would the joints be stronger if I applied some wood putty to fill in the gaps between the square cut outs and rounded boards going into those cut outs? Is it even worth the effort?
