More than 35,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes as two wildfires spread across Boulder County.

Here’s how to help them.

Here’s how to get assistance

Anyone who needs assistance in the wake of the wildfires and sever windstorms, whether a resident or a business owner, must first contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Starting Sunday, Jan. 2, survivors can begin applying for assistance in several ways:

  • Call 1-800-621-FEMA toll free
  • Hearing- or speech-impaired survivors can call 1-800-462-7785 (TTY)
  • Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

The telephone lines will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loans will be available to business owners, and other loans from the administration will be available to renters and homeowners. Eligibility for that assistance is contingent on first applying for assistance through FEMA.

SBA will be available for one-on-one assistance once Federal-State Disaster Recovery Centers open. Information about those centers can be found by calling 800-659-2955.
