Delaware residents are spending a lot more on food due to inflation and saw the largest percentage increase nationwide.

LendingTree site analyzed U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey data to determine how spending on food has changed with higher inflation.

  • In Delaware, weekly food spending increased 44.9% to an average of $416.95 amid inflation, up from $287.85 in May 2021. After Delaware are Montana and Vermont (both 42.3%). The state with the lowest gain was Arizona.
  • U.S. households are spending 28% more on food thanks to higher inflation. Households report spending an average of $407.78 a week on food in June and July 2022, up from $318.69 in May 2021.

State second in traffic death increase

Another report from Lending tree shows that Delaware roads are got more dangerous in the first half of this year despite a leveling out in fatalities nationwide.

Delaware traffic deaths increased by 43% in the first half of 2022the 2nd highest increase nationwide. Topping the list was Maine, with Rhode Island seeing a big drop.

Findings

  • – 76 people were killed in 2022
  • – Traffic fatalities were also up 18% in 2021
  • – Traffic fatalities have decreased 1% nationwide this year

Newark third best small college town

The Preply website ranked Newark as the fourth best small college town.

Only Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan’s home and St. Charles, MO outside St. Louis ranked higher.

A lower cost of living (by East Coast standards, conventient transportation for students and low crime rate and amenities contributed to the high ranking.
