An injured hiker was rescued on Lions Lair Trail at Mount Sanitas, just west of Boulder, around midday  Sunday.

The 54-year-old female was hiking with her husband when she injured her ankle and was unable to walk. Firefighters from Sunshine Fire Protection District provided initial medical care until paramedics from American Medical Response responded to the scene.

Medical personnel placed a splint on the injured ankle before wheeling the female hiker out to the trailhead. She was later transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Other agencies who assisted with the rescue include the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Rural Fire Protection District, the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Park Rangers.
