Campaign committees for the candidates running for Longmont mayoral and City Council seats that are up for election Nov. 2 have already spent a total of $12,977 on those campaigns since mid- to late August, according to reports posted by the city clerk’s office Tuesday.

The three candidates vying for citywide votes for mayor — Gregory Harris, Joan Peck and Tim Waters — had spent $2,881 through Sept. 3 from the time they turned in their nominating petitions and had their candidacies formally certified in August.

The six candidates seeking either of the two at-large council seats up for citywide votes in this year’s election — Diane Crist, Jeremy Dejuan Johnson, Sean McCoy, Aren Rodriguez, Tallis Salamatian and Shiquita Yarbrough — had spent a total of $9,796 between their August candidacy certifications and Sept. 3.

Incumbent Ward 2 Councilwoman Marcia Martin, who’s unopposed in her bid for re-election to that seat representing  southwest and south Longmont, had spent $300 as of Sept. 3, according to her campaign committee’s report.

Spending in the period covered by the certified candidates’ campaign committees’ August through Sept. 3 reports ranged from $148.65 by mayoral candidate Harris, to $3,579.20 by at-large council candidate Yarbrough.

Those were the first regular pre-election campaign finance reports the city required in this year’s election from committees for the candidates after the candidates were certified as qualifying for the ballot after turning in the required numbers of signatures on nominating petitions. The next pre-election reports are due Oct. 4, Oct. 12, Oct..19 and Oct. 27

Longmont’s mayor is paid $1,500 a month while in office. Each of the other six City Council members is paid $1,000 a month.
