A man with a BB gun damaged six vehicles when he shot at passing cars on the 10 Freeway in Bloomington on Thursday.

No one was injured and California Highway Patrol Officers caught the suspect, according to CHP Officer Ivan Sandoval.  He said officers also recovered a BB gun that looks like a handgun.

The CHP received multiple calls around 10:45 a.m. about a man standing on the right shoulder of the westbound 10 Freeway, east of Cedar Avenue, and pointing what looked like a handgun at cars, a CHP statement said.

The man shot at passing traffic. The windshield in one vehicle was shattered while five other vehicles sustained exterior body damage, according to the statement.

The CHP and other law enforcement agencies spotted the man, who dropped the BB gun and tried to run. Officers arrested Devhen Douglas Evans, 29, of Rialto on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities don’t know yet the motive behind the shooting.

Evans remained in custody Friday at the Central Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled for an arraignment Tuesday, Oct. 15, at San Bernardino Superior Court.
