BRUNSWICK, Ga.- The No. 18 Coastal Georgia softball team (5-4, 0-0) will take on Columbia International (5-5, 0-0) on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
The Mariners are coming off two wins against Brewton-Parker on Tuesday in Brunswick. Hayley Dickerson and Bryce Peacock pitched exceptionally in those games, as Peacock recorded a no-hitter and struck out eight batters through five innings.
The Rams are coming off a split series with Paine College over the weekend. They won the first game 14-1 before losing the second one 8-7. The Rams will play their first conference games of the season on Friday, Feb. 24 leading up to their game against the Mariners.
STORYLINES:
Homerun Derby
- The Mariners have hit 10 home runs this season which leads the Sun Conference by a wide margin and is fifth in the NAIA.
- Transfer Aniston Johnson has led the charge in that respect hitting four over the fence, which leads the Sun Conference and is third in the NAIA.
- Melani Jones and Kayla Rowell both have two home runs while MacKenzie Kagee and Malarie Peacock each have one.
Chasing History
- Melani Jones is now the all-time stolen base leader in school history. Jones recorded her 42nd stolen base against Wesleyan College and now sits at 45. Bryce Peacock is right behind her at 42 stolen bases which broke the previous record set by Savannah Money.
- Kayla Rowell has driven in 11 runs this season which puts her at 89 RBIs for her career. She sits just 13 RBIs away from breaking Paige Alt’s career record of 101.
- Jones is in line for another record, as she sits at 141 career hits which is 23 behind Paige Alt’s career record of 164. Alt, who played for the Mariners from 2017-20, has several school records that are at risk of being broken, but that’s why records were made in the first place.
- Hayley Dickerson is now at 308 career strikeouts and 39 career wins. She is just 12 strikeouts and nine wins away from Alt’s career records in both.
Defense Travels
- The Mariners are currently fourth in the Sun Conference and T-52nd in the NAIA for fielding percentage at .964.
- In game one against Brewton-Parker, the Mariners tied a school record for double plays in a game with three.
- Coastal Georgia has five double plays already this season which is first in the Sun Conference and tied for fourth in the NAIA.
