BRUNSWICK, Ga.- Coastal Georgia’s volleyball team (7-5, (0-1)) dropped its first Sun Conference match, 3-1 to Florida Memorial (5-2, (1-1)) on Saturday.

The Mariners kept it close in each of the first two sets, but the Lions were able to pull away late with victories of 25-22 and 25-20.

The Lions jumped out to early 4-1 leads in all four sets thanks to freshman Caroline Souza’s impressive 22-kill performance. Souza was also efficient, recording a .405 hitting percentage. As a team, the Lions hit an impressive .294 percent, breaking the Mariner’s streak of holding opponents to under .100 percent.

Despite the slow starts, Coastal Georgia was able to find themselves within at least two points in each set, except the final one, and eventually took the lead and won in set number three by a score of 25-21.

Freshman Paula Perez Rosales recorded her third double-double of the season recording 13 kills and 10 digs while also hitting .235 percent. Fellow freshman Chantiya Johnson recorded an impressive .625 hitting percentage and recorded five kills and a block.
