Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) presented Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) with the prestigious 2022 TIA 3PL Congressional Leadership Award for his leadership and commitment in advancing the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Pilot Program Act through the U.S. Senate.

“TIA is honored to present the 2022 Awards to Senator Carper. As one of the lead sponsors of S. 2322, the C-TPAT Pilot Program Act, Senator Carper advanced a common-sense legislative solution that will positively affect the transportation industry. We look forward to this legislation passing the House of Representatives before the end of the year and being sent to President Biden’s desk,” Chris Burroughs, vice president of Government Affairs for TIA, said

Additionally, Senator Carper has been a strong champion in Congress addressing supply chain issues with all industry stakeholders and TIA members, always looking for greater efficiencies, boosting the nation’s economy and alleviating marketplace disruptions that persist, in part due to COVID-19.

Fulton Bank announced the addition of Kristen Welch as the new senior vice president and director of its Healthcare Banking Group. In her role, she will oversee banking activities for profit and nonprofit healthcare organizations with over $20 million in revenues in the New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia markets.

Welch brings 18 years of experience to the leadership role working with healthcare providers and payors to evaluate banking solutions including taxable and tax-exempt financing, capital markets, equipment finance, treasury management, revenue cycle management, liquidity solutions, and institutional investments. Prior to joining Fulton, she served as a senior vice president in healthcare for Bank of America and PNC Financial Services.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kristen to Fulton amidst a time of exciting growth and development,” Jeff Rush, director of commercial sales, said. “Her expertise, experience and proven leadership skills in the healthcare banking sector will be a tremendous asset to our team and the clients we serve throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.”

Welch is a 2004 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Finance. She is actively evolved in the Maryland and Virginia/DC chapters of Healthcare Financial Management Association.


The Wistar Institute announced the appointment of Michele A. Schiavoni, M.S., vice president of Communications & Marketing, in a central leadership role that will bolster the visibility of the Institute’s ambitious biomedical research science initiatives and programs advancing the organization’s newly launched Bold Science // Global Impact Capital Campaign.

A longtime communications executive, Schiavoni brings decades of expertise in building brands for health care systems, nonprofit social services entities, and economic development organizations. Collaborating closely with scientists and administrative leaders, she will oversee marketing and brand strategy across the Institute to coordinate internal and external messaging and reinforce Wistar’s growth trajectory supporting the Institute’s goals and mission. She will also provide strategic communications guidance to the president & CEO.

“It is a privilege to become a part of the Wistar team — Wistar science has a remarkable history of breakthrough research discoveries and developing innovative technologies that have a global impact saving lives,” Schiavoni said in a statement. “Wistar scientists continue creating transformative advances in cancer care and infectious disease research. Schiavoni joins Wistar from the Delaware Prosperity Partnership, where she served as vice president for external relations and led marketing and communications for Delaware’s lead economic development organization. She previously held communication leadership positions at Elwyn Foundation and Christiana Care Health System. Schiavoni received a B.A. in communications from the University of Delaware and a M.S. in management communications from Syracuse University, Newhouse School of Public Communication. She also serves as president of the Board of the Tilton Society of Delaware.

Beebe Healthcare welcomed cardiologist Praveen George, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. George sees patients at Clinic By The Sea and performs procedures at the Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus.

Dr. George earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and also completed his Internal Medicine residency there. Following the residency, Dr. George completed his Interventional Cardiology and General Cardiology fellowships at the University of Texas Southwestern.

He specializes in Interventional Cardiology, cardiac catheterizations, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

“I’m thrilled to be here in Sussex County to provide excellent heart care to the community,” Dr. George said. “As part of Beebe’s Medical Staff, my patients will have access to the latest technologies and all of Beebe’s caring staff.”


Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County announced the appointment of Jason Patton as vice president of its Board of Directors. Patton is the new Head of Community and Business Development for the Northeast Division of Chase Bank.

Patton brings with him leadership in the areas of strategic planning, financial health, experience design, and marketing. Patton is a diversity, equity, and inclusion champion, and is committed to providing guidance and thoughtful solutions for corporations and nonprofit organizations to address DE&I at all levels, from internal c-suite to entry-level staffing, and external audiences, products, and/or services.

Patton’s career at Chase spans over 15 years, and he has held positions as Head of Cross-Line of Business Partnerships and Customer Experience, as well as key roles in Channel Marketing, Product Management, Digital, and Operations Strategy. Prior to his career at Chase, Patton worked at Wells Fargo in Product Development and Experience Design. Jason has an MBA in Global Management from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business.  He is an avid traveler and volunteer at this local church.


Brandywine River Restoration Trust (BRRT) announced Jenn Parrish as the nonprofit’s Program Manager.

Parrish is known for her public service as the Founder and Executive Director of Delaware Angels Inc., and her advocacy with numerous nonprofits including the American Heart Association, Turn the Towns Teal, and Action for Delaware’s Children. She comes to BRRT with knowledge and experience in many areas, including environmental service in the State of Delaware.

“I’m excited about BRRT’s mission to restore the Brandywine River and educate the community and future generations about its unique and fragile ecosystem,” Parrish said. “I look forward to serving my community in this new capacity with an amazing team!”

Parrish’s past work as legislative aide to Delaware’s Senate Environment & Energy Committee Chair, Sen. Stephanie Hansen includes managing the Senator’s many projects, legislation, and all aspects of the office. Jenn saw countless number of projects from concept to execution. She was instrumental in the development of what would later be SB 22; where she compiled data on native, non-native, and invasive plant species sold in Delaware for the Ecological Extinction Task Force. Notably, she was also the Senate Volunteer Committee Chair and lead many initiatives that benefited communities throughout Delaware, including community cleanups and humanitarian work. Parrish’s experience also includes work with Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, staffing the Delaware Family Law Commission, an office assistant at the University of Delaware’s College of Nursing, and a substitute teacher.

Tara Bustard, a partner at Doroshow Pasquale Krawitz & Bhaya, was elected president of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association for the 2022-2023 term at DTLA’s annual convention in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Bustard is a graduate of James Madison University and Widener University School of Law, where she was a managing editor for the Law Review. In addition to Delaware, Bustard is a member of the bars of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Bustard began practicing law in 2003 with the firm and became a partner in 2012. She practices in the areas of claimant’s personal injury and workers’ compensation.

 

Involved with her community and the Delaware Bar, Bustard is active in the Randy Holland Workers’ Compensation Inn of Court, the Delaware State Bar Association Workers Compensation Section, the Delaware State Bar Association Women and Law Retreat Committee and she serves as vice president of the Swedesboro School District PTO. Recently, as pictured (second from right), on behalf of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, Bustard attended Governor Carney’s signing of HB 277 and the SAFE bill package, which provides stronger protection of public-school students from sexual abuse by public school employees such as teachers or coaches.

Bustard is looking forward to serving this year as the DTLA president, advancing the goal of protecting injured Delawareans by working with trial lawyers and other members of the Bar, communicating with the public and our representatives, and promoting beneficial legislation.


Beko Home Appliances has appointed James Hershman as the new area sales manager for Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Hershman, a resident of Blackwood, N.J., and 20-year kitchen and laundry appliance sales management veteran will be responsible for growing the Beko and Blomberg brands in eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. He will work with residential dealers, buying groups, designers, architects, specifiers, and builders to communicate the health, sustainability, and other product benefits of the Beko Healthy Kitchen.
