So I’m working on some 1911 pistol grips for Christmas. I’ve been given some beautiful rough sawn black walnut. Theres a large spot of spalt right below what I believe I going to be an amazing oval shaped section of face grain. The edge that I have hand planed have an unbelievable natural luster that any photos will not do justice. So beautiful that I need this section of grain pattern for these grips…. I assume the wood will need to be stabilized to withstand the shock from the .45 acp discharge, so can stabilized wood still be hand planed to achieve the woods natural luster? If I can figure out how to post both text and images I will upload some photos.
Thanks in advance for any help
