COMMERCE — Wooden railroad ties caught fire Tuesday morning in Commerce, sending flames and smoke shooting into the sky and prompting evacuations of nearby residents.
The fire was first reported about 3:30 a.m. near Ferguson Drive and Burrard Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Residents were evacuated from homes near the fire as a precaution.
Initially, Metrolink San Bernardino Line train 303 was being held at the Baldwin Park station due to firefighters working to extinguish the fire near the tracks. Now all Metrolink trains are stopped in both directions between the Baldwin Park and El Monte stations, according to the sheriff’s transit policing division.
No injuries were reported.
