The Town of Erie has welcomed a new finance director.

In a news release on Dec. 21, the town  announced that Stefanie Furman had been hired to fill the position. Furman, who has been serving as acting interim finance director since October 2020, served her first day as director on Dec. 20. She had been serving alongside Victoria Runkle, who was hired by the town in a temporary position as joint interim finance director and mentor. Runkle stepped down on Dec. 17.

“I appreciate Victoria’s and Stefanie’s teamwork this past year and am delighted to have Stefanie assume all of the director’s responsibilities and continue innovating and enhancing the effectiveness of the Finance Department,” Town Administrator Malcolm Fleming said in news release.

Furman first began working for Erie in April 2020, when she was hired as accounting manager. Before working for the town, Furman worked for nearly nine years at the University of Colorado at Boulder as an associate director in the campus controller’s office. She earned her masters degree in accounting from the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well.

The finance director’s duties include overseeing the town’s budget and spending, coordinating payroll, managing accounting staff, managing the investing of the town’s reserve funds, among other responsibilities relating to financial planning.
