A tractor-trailer crashed into a restaurant on Route 2 in North Stonington early Thursday, state police said.

The tractor-trailer was traveling east on Route 2 around 7:50 a.m. Thursday when it ran off the road, drove through oncoming traffic and subsequently collided with Buon Appetito Ristorante & Pizzeria on the Norwich-Westerly Road.

The driver, a Cromwell resident, was transported to Backus Hospital for evaluation.

The building sustained structural damage, police said. The tractor-trailer was towed with disabling damage.
