Georgia is heavily favored (-27.5, per BetMGM) against the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina is not an opponent that the Bulldogs will take lightly.
The Gamecocks were the last road team to win in Sanford Stadium and have a lot of talent. South Carolina defeated both Tennessee and Clemson late last season.
Georgia’s Week 3 home game against South Carolina will be the Bulldogs’ first real challenge of the 2023 college football season. It will also be quarterback Carson Beck’s first career SEC start.
There’s quite a few things that could go wrong for the Bulldogs, but we have five reasons why we are very confident that Georgia will beat South Carolina.
South Carolina’s weak offensive line unit
After two weeks, South Carolina has only 106 rushing yards on 70 carries. The Gamecocks simply don’t have an offensive front to hold up against the Bulldogs. South Carolina gave up nine sacks against North Carolina and finished the game with minus-2 rushing yards.
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers
Bowers is coming off a tough outing against Ball State, so you know he will be extra motivated against South Carolina. Bowers destroyed the Gamecocks last season with three total touchdowns and over 100 receiving yards.
Georgia’s defensive speed will give South Carolina fits
Georgia has dominated South Carolina the last three times the two SEC East foes faced off. The Dawgs have a defense that South Carolina simply can’t move against.
Georgia held South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler under 150 passing yards last year and forced him into two interceptions. Look for defenders like safety Malaki Starks, linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson, and pass rusher Mykel Williams to have big games.
Quarterback Carson Beck will avoid turnovers in win
Carson Beck and the Georgia offense are probably going to have a few struggles as the Dawgs continue to settle into the season. We think Beck will take care of the football and not give South Carolina any short fields.
Georgia will run the ball a high percentage of the time against the Gamecocks in order to not put too much pressure on Beck.
Georgia’s homefield advantage
Georgia has won 20 straight home games dating back to the 2019 game against South Carolina. The Bulldogs have the nation’s longest home winning streak. Georgia fans will be loud against South Carolina, which will make things tough on the Gamecocks’ offensive line.
