Since Roe was overturned seven months ago, 13 states have completely banned abortion.

State Rep. Anna V. Eskamani will serve as the host and mistress of ceremonies for the Bigger Than Roe Orlando march Saturday.

The event will include a rally and march and will encourage activists to organize against abortion bans.

Sunday marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision, which granted constitutional protections for women to access abortion care. Today’s U.S. Supreme Court struck the ruling down last year, paving the way for states to pass restrictive abortion legislation without fear of running afoul of federal protections.

Since Roe was overturned seven months ago, 13 states have completely banned abortion while many others, including Florida, have implemented or proposed further restrictions.

The Orlando event will be held at Orlando City Hall, located at 400 South Orange Ave., from 12-2 p.m. Speakers will address the crowd at 12:30 and march following remarks.

Speakers include U.S. Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Eskamani, Rep. Johanna Lopez and Rep. LaVon Bracy Davis. Other participants include Ruth’s List Florida’s Tiffany Hughes, Hope Community Center’s Andrea Montanez, University of Central Florida’s Jen Sandoval, Florida NOW’s Debbie Deland, community advocate Arlo Dennis and youth activist Lola Smyth.
