HONOLULU – A total of seven University of Hawai’i football student-athletes were named to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Mountain West team.
 
Senior defensive back Cam Stone was the lone Rainbow Warrior named to the first team. The transfer from Wyoming was also selected to the preseason all-conference first team by Athlon after a 2022 season in which he earned honorable mention all-Mountain West. Last season, the Angleton, Texas native posted 10 pass breakups and two interceptions for the Cowboys.
 
Sophomore running back Tylan Hines was picked to the second team along with senior linebacker Logan Taylor. Hines, a Mt. Pleasant, Texas native, rushed for 634 yards and two touchdowns and posted four games with over 100 all-purpose yards last season. Taylor, a senior from Harbor City, Calif., finished as the season with six games of double-digit tackles and was the team’s leading tackler with 85.
 
Solo Vaipulu, a senior from Riverside, Calif., has the most career starts among the returning offensive linemen with 43. Defensive tackle John Tuitupou, a senior from Vaitogi, American Samoa, has 45 career tackles and 3.5 sacks in three seasons.
 
Wide receiver Jalen Walthall and long snapper Solomon Landrum were selected to the fourth team. Walthall, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, made six starts last season and hauled in 27 catches for 333 yards and one touchdown. Landrum, a senior from Hattiesburg, Miss., started all 13 games in 2022 in his first season after transferring from Ole Miss.
