Former Georgia basketball guard Anthony Edwards has signed a maximum contract extension worth up to $260 million over five years, if he makes the All-NBA team in 2023-2024, with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Anthony Edwards was named as an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career during the 2022-2023 season.
Edwards was the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NBA draft. The shooting guard just finished his third career NBA season. Last season, Edwards averaged a career-high 24.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 4.6 assists per game.
The Timberwolves finished this past season as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Minnesota is banking on Edwards being the future of its franchise.
Here’s how social media reacted to Anthony Edwards’ enormous contract extension:
As part of his contract, Anthony Edwards is starting a new program called “Don’t Follow the Wave” in the Minnesota community.
“I want to do everything I can to help as many young people as I can and help set them on the right path.”

We certainly think so. Especially for the Timberwolves.

When you’re seeing Anthony Edwards’ max contract be 5 years, $260M, that is only if he makes All-NBA this season.
If he doesn’t make All-NBA, it will be 5 years, $217M — a *big* factor in the future sustainability of this roster.

In a statement, Edwards says: “I’m humbled, appreciative and excited to remain in Minnesota as a part of this incredible Timberwolves organization. It’s amazing to see where hard work can take you.”
