1 shot after fight on MTA train, investigation ongoing at New Haven Union Station

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police were on scene conducting a shooting investigation Wednesday night at Union Station after a man was shot multiple times.

The altercation spilled out of an MTA train and onto the platform at Union Station, where the man was shot at about 8:35 p.m.

Officials initially said the shooting happened on the train, which was heading from New York City. They later said that it happened between the tracks 12 and 14. The victim then got onto a nearby train.

Police do not believe the shooting was random.

The victim was in critical condition at the hospital, as of about 10:30 p.m., according to New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker.

New Haven police are looking for two male suspects. Their descriptions were not immediately available to the public. New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said there is video footage of the two.

News 8’s Ann Nyberg described what she saw from the scene outside Union Station. Watch her interview with Rich Coppola in the player below.

State police were also involved in the investigation, with personnel at the scene. Multiple police vehicles were outside the train station, as of 10:30 p.m.

Train service restarted at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday.

More officers will be present at the station as a precaution, with Jacobson adding that it was safe for the public to ride the trains.

This is a developing situation and more information will be added as it is made available.
