HONOLULU—The Big West Conference announced its 2023-24 regular-season schedule on Wednesday with the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team once again facing a 20-game regular-season slate.
Due to a shorter-than-normal schedule window last year the Big West implemented Monday and Wednesday games which saw teams play as many as four games in a week’s span. That will not be the case this year as the teams return to a normal schedule of Thursday and Saturday games while once again enjoying two byes during the season.
UH opens up conference play at home versus Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Dec. 30. The Titans ended the ‘Bows season last year with an overtime decision in the Big West Championship quarterfinals. Other notable home dates include Jan. 11 versus UC Irvine and Jan. 25 against defending conference champion UC Santa Barbara. The team’s Senior Night finale will be on March 9 against CSU Bakersfield.
That game versus the Roadrunners will mark the first time since 2014 the ‘Bows will conclude its regular season schedule at home. UH has ended the regular-season on the road in each of the previous nine seasons.
For the third straight year, the Big West Championship will be at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev. As previously announced by the conference, the tournament will take on a new format. It will now be a four-day, eight-team event in which the top two seeds get double byes into the semifinals. The Nos. 3 and 4 seeds get a single bye past the first round. This season’s tournament will run March 13-16.
UH returns nine players from last year’s roster, highlighted by all-conference guards Noel Coleman and JoVon McClanahan. The ‘Bows also welcome back veteran starter Bernardo da Silva and Juan Munoz, who sat out each of the last two years due to injury. Among the newcomers are transfers Matthue Cotton (Yale) and Justin McKoy (North Carolina).
All Big West regular-season contests are slated for telecast on ESPN+, and additional linear schedules will be announced this fall. UH’s non-conference games will be announced at a later date.
