ON THE PITCH

• UH enters the week leading the Big West with 2.167 goals per match, just ahead of Long Beach State’s average of 2.100. The Rainbow Wahine also lead the Big West with 17.0 shots per game (102 in six games), and 8.33 shots on goal per game (50 total). UH’s 13 goals so far this season is the team’s highest total through six matches since 2012 when the ‘Bows scored 15.

• Six UH players have scored at least one goal this season, matching last year’s total. Freshman Izzy Ayala and senior Nohara Takayama joined the club by scoring the first goals of their UH careers in the win against CSUN on Sept. 14. Sophomore Amber Gilbert continues to lead the team with four goals followed by junior Mia Foster with three.

• Cal State Fullerton has been a nemesis for UH, holding a 15-2-1 advantage in the all-time series and winning 11 of the last 12 meetings. The exception was a 1-1 tie in their regular-season meeting in  2019. UH posted its last win in the series on Sept. 30, 2008. Cal State Fullerton won last year’s meeting 2-0 in UH’s home finale at WPSS.

• UH owns a 6-4-2 edge in the series with UC Riverside and is 3-0-1 against the Highlanders since 2018. The Rainbow Wahine pulled out a 2-1 comeback victory in last year’s meeting at WPSS. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Bailey Faulkner scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute and Amber Gilbert fired the game-winner less than eight minutes later.

• UC Riverside opened the Big West season with a 3-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at UC Riverside Soccer Stadium. UCR forward Daphane Mendez had a goal and two assists and was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week.
