HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Hawai’i beach volleyball program began competition at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship Friday at the John Hunt Park.

A total of 64 pairs from across the country descended on Alabama for the second annual event and were broken up into 16 pools on the initial day. Among those pairs were two from UH –  Kaylee Glagau and Julia Thelle, along with Pani Napoleon and Jaime Santer

The No. 14 seed pair of Glagau and Thelle  went 2-1 in pool play, trouncing pairs from Northern Florida and the College of Charleston. The duo concluded the day with a tight 21-19, 28-26 loss to Xolani Hodel and Brooke Rockwell of Stanford.

Despite that loss, Glagau and Thelle advanced to the 32-team Championship Bracket set to begin Saturday. The tandem will open bracket play against another Stanford pair in Chloe Hoffman and Kate Reilly. First serve for that match is at 9 am CDT.

The pair of Hoffman and Reilly advanced to the Championship Bracket by getting past UH’s Napoleon and Santer to conclude pool play.
