WETHERSFIELD – The Canton field hockey team went undefeated – until its final game.
The Warriors (19-1) lost to two-time defending Class S champion North Branford Saturday afternoon 4-1 in the Class S final at Wethersfield High.
“Obviously, we all wanted it so bad,” Canton senior Ellie Bahre said. “We came so far this year as seniors. We definitely wanted to end on a state title. It’s been one heck of a ride though, and I’m so blessed to do it with all the girls around me. They made it so enjoyable. We just couldn’t end it with a state title. It’s all right – I’m just so glad we got here, and I appreciate my coaches and the girls around me.”
North Branford (22-0) won its seventh title. Keana Criscuolo scored two goals for the Thunderbirds and Alivia Schmidt and Sophia Toto added one each.

Paige Sidrane scored Canton’s only goal in the fourth quarter. North Branford outshot Canton, 12-9.
Canton had its chances with 12 penalty corners but struggled to convert.
“We couldn’t get our stick on the ball in the circle for some reason,” Canton coach Margaret Bristol said. “We weren’t playing our game. We weren’t playing the game we did all season. We got some momentum (at the end) but we couldn’t get it in the net today.”
