NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) — An influx in emergency funds is coming to help the rebuild of a part of Interstate 95 in the wake of a fire that damaged an overpass and triggered a multi-day shutdown.
The Fairfield Avenue overpass in Norwalk had to be demolished after the Thursday morning fire — an event that’s been estimated to carry a price tag of $20 million by the time the bridge is replaced.
Gov. Ned Lamont filed an emergency declaration with the federal government within hours of the fire. Now, that request was at least partially answered.
Lamont was alerted late Monday afternoon that the Federal Highway Administration was releasing $3 million in emergency relief funds to begin replacing the overpass.
“This is great news and I appreciate their quick support and partnership,” Lamont posted on X.
