Tropical Storm Karen is slowly moving northwestward across the southeastern Caribbean Sea while forecasters are watching another tropical depression that could become a named storm on Monday. Characterizing Karen as “disorganized” early Monday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm is around 180 miles west of St. Vincent and around 290 miles south-southeast of St. Croix, with top sustained winds of 40 mph. It’s moving northwest at 8 mph.“This system is very, very disorganized. It could fall apart completely. It could stay north and miss the United States completely or it could make a left turn and head toward the Bahamas, Florida or even Cuba. The reality, there is still 7 to 10 days before this does anything,” First Alert Meteorologist Eric Burris said. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
