Alabama schools have begun to announce closures for next week as a portion of the state braces for very cold weather.

On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued an extreme cold watch for Monday, Jan. 26 between midnight and 10 a.m. for numerous Alabama counties in central and north Alabama.
