The Maxwell Football Club announced on Thursday its semifinalists for the 2023 George Munger Award, which recognizes the top college football coach in the country each year. 

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban was among the 14 semifinalists for this season’s award. 

The Crimson Tide just completed an 11-1 regular season, capped off by defeating the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs to win the 2023 SEC Championship and be invited into this year’s College Football Playoff.

Saban replaced both offensive and defensive coordinators entering the year, and lost the No. 1 and No. 3 overall picks to the 2023 NFL Draft. 

The finalists for the award will be named on Dec. 21 with the winner being announced on Jan. 10, 2024.

Alabama has had two coaches winning this award, Gene Stallings in 1992 and Saban in 2016. 

Munger, played halfback for Penn in the 1930s and then took over as head coach in 1938. He led the Quakers to an 82-42-10 record in 16 years and was inducted into the College Football Hall of…
