Youth was served at Las Vegas Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon. Lots of youth.
The Las Vegas Aviators celebrated their annual “School Day” game with thousands of students from elementary schools across the valley, including Stuckey Elementary School, Gene Ward Elementary School and Griffith Elementary School.
The Aviators are the Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics, who are moving to their new Strip ballpark in 2028.
The Aviators (4-1) beat the Oklahoma City Comets, 11-5. Brett Harris and Zack Gelof each hit a two-run homer as the Aviators went ahead with a six-run eighth inning. Henry Bolte had a tying solo homer in the fifth and was one of four Aviators with two hits, and he had two of their five stolen bases. Aviators catcher Brian Serven, who homered and tripled, is 9-for-10 this season.
Jack Perkins struck out four in three shutout innings of relief for the Aviators. Wander Suero (1-0) was credited with the win after working the final 1⅔ innings.
