The bb.q Chicken chain will open its first restaurant in Delaware on Jan. 5 in Newark.
The restaurant located at 165 S. Main St. near the University of Delaware campus, will feature a Chicken Cafe concept, designed for lunch, happy hour, dinner and late-night visits. The menu will feature beer, chicken and other Korean items. The opening ceremony is slated for 11 a.m.
Each restaurant offers both boneless and bone-in Korean Fried Chicken options with a variety of sauces. Marinades arrive directly from South Korea.
“We’re excited to diversify Newark’s food scene and show the community all the amazing food Korea has to offer, especially our Chicken Wings,” said Jin Yum, franchise owner and University of Delaware alum. “We’re confident that Korean and American locals here will love our authentic Korean Fried Chicken and other delicious K-Food items.”
Nation’s Restaurant News recently named bb.q Chicken as the second fastest growing restaurant brand by unit growth in the United States, with 68.6% unit growth, year over year, from 2020 to 2021.

Newark is seeing a boom in Korean fried chicken, with rival Bonchon opening earlier on the other side of Newark at The Grove mixed-use development. Also slated for opening in Newark is Raising Cain’s, a chain specializing in chicken tenders.
