Buffs move up in national rankings – Boulder Daily Camera

Another impressive win led to another jump in the national rankings for the Colorado Buffaloes.

On Sunday, a day after a thorough 36-14 rout of Nebraska, CU moved up to No. 18 in the Associated Press poll and No. 21 in the Coaches’ poll.

CU has its highest ranking in the AP poll since finishing at No. 17 in the final rankings of 2016, when the Buffs went 10-4 and won the Pac-12 South division.

The Buffs (2-0) will look to keep their hot start going when in-state rival Colorado State (0-1) visits Folsom Field on Saturday (8 p.m., ESPN).

Unranked to start the season, CU vaulted to No. 22 in the AP and No. 25 in the Coaches’ poll last week. More voters are taking notice of the Buffs (2-0), however, who have had a sudden resurgence under the direction of first-year head coach Deion Sanders.

Despite being a 20.5-point underdog in the opener at then-No. 17 TCU, which played in last year’s national title game, the Buffs went to Fort Worth, Texas, and stunned the Horned Frogs, 45-42.

CU backed that up by rolling past Nebraska on Saturday at Folsom Field, scoring 23 straight points in the second half to pull away.

Both wins were different, but it showed CU’s ability to win in different circumstances.

“It tells me that we’re resilient, that we’re tough,” Sanders said. “I mean, we weren’t as disciplined as we normally are early in the game but we played a smart game. And we just got to start quicker. We’ve got to come out and let’s go.

“But this team hasn’t scratched the surface of what it’s capable of doing. We’ve still got some players that are really good players, but they hadn’t thrusted themselves into that spotlight yet because of the lack of consistency, but they’re going to get it. I truly believe in that.”

In addition to the two main polls, CU jumped in the Football Writers Association of America Super 16 poll, at No. 16.
