Music fans can time trip back to the early days of rock ‘n’ roll tonight in downtown Hobart during a special performance from 6:30-9:30 p.m. by Chicago music perennial Joe Cantafio, the founder, band leader, guitarist and lead vocalist of the iconic JADE 50’s musical show band.
Cantafio’s solo concert is part of the “Acoustic Thursday” series at Montego Bay Grille (322 Main St.) and includes a non-stop stream of vintage rock covers, along with some great stories about his long and colorful career, spent working alongside many of the artists he covers.
When the JADE 50’s (jade50.com) first hit the clubs, they were billed as Chicago’s answer to SHA NA NA, and almost immediately were performing in front of sold out audiences at places like Thirsty Whale, Pointe East and at Navy Pier’s “Chicago Fest.” The band toured America with iconic DJs Dick Clark and Wolfman Jack, while serving as the backing band for rock pioneers like Bo…
