Jerrie Hurd — Beyond the Male Gaze: The male gaze commonly describes a way of looking at and being seen in the world that empowers men and sexualizes women. Photographers like Jerrie Hurd who specialize in figurative images often struggle to find form and beauty in the human figure while avoiding objectification. The exhibit is up through May 26; Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, University of Colorado Boulder, 1595 Pleasant St., Boulder.

Joysome: A collaboration between the Dairy Arts Center and East Window, this exhibit consists of 50 images selected from hundreds of responses to a call for work on the theme of joy. Submitted by artists and non-artists alike, the works in this exhibit span a range of disciplines associated with joy. The selected images have been printed on flags and exhibited throughout the Front Range  as part of the Month of Photography; Opening reception is 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at Dairy Arts Center, 2590 Walnut St., Boulder.

Rectangled: Risa Friedman’s “Rectangled” is a nostalgic homage to counting rectangles in the puzzle section of the newspaper in her grandparents’ kitchen in Queens, New York. Friedman will transform the architecture of BMoCA’s interior brick-lined lobby space into an immersive puzzle of parallelograms through the presentation of framed prints and photo-covered blocks. The exhibit will be up until March 31; Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 1750 13th St., Boulder.
