Christmas Tree Shops is closing its remaining stores after filing for Chapter 11 a couple of months ago in Delaware.
The company operates a store in the Brandywine Town Center that had survived other closings by the retailer.
The chain got its start in Massachusetts about 50 years ago and expanded over the years. Despite their name, the stores operate year-round and feature discounts on gift and other items.
The company was purchased and later sold by Bed, Bath, and Beyond, which is now undergoing store liquidations at locations in Delaware and elsewhere.
Mid-sized retailers often file for bankruptcy protection in Delaware, with the final outcome often being liquidation unless a prospective buyer or “stalking horse” is using the process to reduce store count.
