Correctional officer charged after alleged assault on inmate at MacDougall-Walker

SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – A correctional officer has been charged after an alleged assault on an inmate in August 2023 at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institute.

According to the police report, correctional officers responded to a “Code Blue,” which is when there is a physical altercation between inmates. After officers watched the video footage of the incident, they were able to determine one of the inmates that was involved.

The correctional officers then approached the inmate’s cell and attempted to bring him to the Restrictive Housing Unit. The inmate then said prison staff had forced him to the ground and began punching him. He also claims that he may have lost consciousness for a moment.

After an investigation, police were able to identify Officer Christopher Carlson,33, as the person accused of striking the inmate. Multiple witnesses told police that they witnessed Officer Carlson strike the inmate in the face.

Officer Carlson has been charged with third-degree assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 12.
