County approves $900K in additional funding for Boulder Shelter for …

The Boulder County Commissioners have approved $900,000 in additional annual funding for the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, the city’s largest shelter.

According to a release, a growing number of people have been utilizing the shelter, which is “experiencing a crucial funding gap for staff, utilities, food and other resources as costs continue to rise.”

As a result of the commissioners’ decision, the shelter will receive an additional $900,000 annually from Boulder County to fund operations starting in 2024.

This year, the Boulder Shelter has received $1.16 million for case management and services such as assistance with accessing housing via the Homeless Solutions for Boulder County partnership. Starting in 2024, the county will provide the shelter with that $900,000 of additional funding each year to support its operations.

“Homelessness is a complex issue (that) requires cooperation between all levels of government, the non-profit sector and the business community to address,” County Commissioner Ashley Stolzmann stated in the release. “However, the immediate needs of Boulder Shelter, which serves so many community members, are clear, which is why the Boulder County Commissioners have made a commitment to provide these crucial funds.”
