Following the results of the special primary on Tuesday, candidates Brad Cox and Bryan Brinyark are headed to a run-off to determine who will become a representative for House District 16.

Cox and Brinyark both obtained just above 32 percent of votes in the primary, with Cox edging Brinyark by only 15 votes. However, since Cox and Brinyark were the top two finishers in the race and neither had a majority of the vote, they will now face off in a run-off on Oct.24 for the district seat.

The seat they are competing for was previously held by former Republican Rep. Kyle South. South resigned in June in order to become head of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce. District 16 is also located north of Tuscaloosa and west of Birmingham encompassing parts of Fayette County, Jefferson County and Tuscaloosa County.

Cox is currently a banker but also is a former high school teacher who graduated from Auburn University. Cox also serves as District 1 Commissioner for the Fayette County…
