CT man allegedly threatened to ‘crater’ Stratford aviation school if he was kicked out – Hartford Courant

An Oxford man who allegedly made threats of violence directed at students and the Stratford School for Aviation has been arrested, according to Connecticut State Police.

Joseph Cyr, 31, is charged with threatening and breach of peace, both in the second degree, following an investigation by troopers into a complaint made on Feb. 17, according to state police.

State police said two people came to Troop G to report the alleged threats. A witness told the investigating trooper that in December 2022, Cyr was allegedly heard saying he was going to “shoot up graduation,” and that on Feb. 16 Cyr “also allegedly made comments to his classmates implying that if he were to be ‘kicked out’ of school, he would turn the airport into a ‘crater’ and that he knew where some of the classmates lived,” state police said in a statement Wednesday.

Police said a second witness also told troopers Cyr made the comment about graduation and that Cyr allegedly also said he “was going to bring a friend or possibly a coworker with him,” state police said. The second witness also told troopers that, in response to a question about staying in school, Cyr allegedly responded, “If I go down, everyone is going down with me” and implied the airport would become a “crater,” state police said in the statement. The second witness told troopers Cyr’s alleged comment caused them to fear for their safety.

State police said the investigating trooper contacted administrators at the aviation school and was told they were “aware of the allegations and had already begun an administrative investigation.”

State police said Cyr was taken into custody at his home and taken to Troop G to be charged on a warrant. Cyr is free on a $50,000 court set bond, pending his arraignment at Superior Court in Bridgeport, set for Thursday, Feb. 23, state police said.
